Locals Pitch in for Local Schools
Ever wonder why people would choose to live in a ski resort environment year round? After all, what’s to offer after the snow melts? Well one of the best things is the sense of community that is not easily found in our modern, wireless world. When tax revenues fall one of the hardest hit areas is the school system. We have all heard stories of teachers going out and buying their own supplies to keep their classes running. The local community here in Summit County got together and started the Summit Education Foundation, a nonprofit that will funnel private contributions into the public schools. The goal for their first year is to raise $1.2 million. The money will be distributed equally to all schools in the district. The Foundation will have special funds for thing like technology and trades for those wanting to contribute to specific programs. Contributions can be made at; www.sefcolorado.org.
